5 Ways to Use & Style Trays
By: Naomi Middleton
Trays are indispensable in home decor, offering versatility and practicality. They serve as perfect foundations for creating layered displays or effectively containing clutter. When strategically placed, trays enhance organization and introduce captivating focal points in any room. I love using trays in creative ways, from corralling perfumes and jewelry on dressers to grouping candles and books on coffee tables. They effortlessly elevate the aesthetic appeal of spaces, imparting a sense of cohesion and style. Whether showcasing beloved collections or serving snacks in style, trays prove themselves as essential accents that marry functionality with decorative charm throughout our living spaces.
Minimize Clutter
Trays are an excellent solution for minimizing clutter in your home. Instead of items being spread out across an entire counter, they can be neatly contained on a simple tray. Bathrooms, in particular, benefit from the use of trays to manage clutter. With various items like soap, lotion, candles, and toothbrushes being frequently used and stored in bathrooms, countertops can easily become cluttered and messy. While it's impractical to store these items in a cabinet due to their frequent use, a small tray on the counter offers an organized way to display them.
Ground Items
Trays are also effective for grounding items. Sometimes, items can appear to float or seem lost when placed by themselves on a table or stand. For instance, a vase looks more complete when styled on a tray with a candle or other complementary items.
Adds Dimension
Dimension is one of the most important elements in design and home decor. It is what makes a space feel complete and interesting. One of the easiest ways to add dimension to a room is by layering. For example, placing a bowl on top of stacked books adds dimension and interest. Another effective method is using trays. You can place a tray on a stand with a few items, or incorporate trays into built-ins alongside other interesting pieces.
Style Element
A tray isn't just functional but also a stylish decor piece. Unique designs can serve as eye-catching accents, enhancing the aesthetic of any shelf or table. Tray options vary widely, from minimalist to ornate, catering to diverse tastes in interior design.
Protects Surfaces
A few years ago, I noticed that our coffee maker was leaving stains on our butcher block countertop. So, I started placing our coffee maker on a granite tray. Not only does it look nice, but it also keeps our counter cleaner and stain-free. Instead of coffee grounds spreading over the entire counter, they are confined to the tray.
